Smeg Italian designed kitchen appliances

Did you know that you can trace the origins of Smeg as far back as 1882, when the Bertazzoni family began manufacturing wood burning stoves? Following World War II, a descendant, Vittorio Bertazzoni, founded Smeg in 1948 in northern Italy and in the years since, the company has become world famous for its beautiful and clever kitchen appliances.

The name Smeg is derived from its original name, Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla. The company originally began as a metal enameling works, based in the region of Emilia and the town of Guastalla.

In 1956, Smeg developed the world’s first gas freestanding cooker with programmable start time, oven safety valve and timer, known as ‘the Elizabeth’. The company is also well known for its retro 1950s style refrigerators with curved corners in fun colours that remain popular today.

The thinkdzine kitchen showroom in Sydney features a number of contemporary kitchen appliances from Smeg. Many of Smeg’s designs have minimalist lines without visible controls – creating a modern, uncluttered look that’s easy to clean.

With a dedication to design excellence, it is no wonder that Smeg’s headquarters in Italy are close to other prestigious brands known for their style and superior engineering: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Ducati to name a few.
